Feijóo vows fair financing for Valencia as flood response sparks political clash

At a provincial People’s Party (PP) gathering in Sueca, party leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo pledged to introduce a new "just" model of autonomous financing for the Valencian Community if he becomes prime minister, saying "there must be no first‑class or second‑class citizens depending on where they live." He linked the proposal to long‑standing under‑funding of the region and criticised the central government for what he called a "political use" of the October 2024 flood (dana) that left 230 dead.

During the same event, PP officials Vicent Mompó and regional president Juanfran Pérez Llorca defended the party’s record, attacked the PSOE and the government of Pedro Sánchez, and urged internal unity ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle. Outside the venue, families of flood victims and teachers staged protests, accusing the Sánchez administration of abandoning Valencia during the disaster. PSPV minister Diana Morant responded by accusing Feijóo and the PP of mistreating flood victims, warning that "one day they will pay for that mistreatment." The meeting, attended by roughly 2,000 people, also featured a early‑morning "almuerzo" that highlighted the party’s organisational strength in the region.
