Alberto Núñez Feijóo launches PP slate for Spain’s 2027 municipal elections
At a rally in Santiago de Compostela on 18 July, Partido Popular leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo unveiled the party’s slate of candidates for the municipal elections scheduled for May 2027. The event, held at the Cidade da Cultura, presented 50 nominees for mayoralties in Spain’s provincial capitals, confirming that the PP already governs 30 of the 50 capitals and will retain those incumbents while introducing 11 new candidates in the 20 cities where it does not currently hold office.
Feijóo repeated his campaign slogan, borrowing Luis Aragonés’s phrase “Ganar, ganar, ganar y volver a ganar,” and urged his candidates to act with “decencia, servicio y ambición.” He framed the upcoming votes as a verdict on the “sanchismo” of the current government, criticised parties with decision‑making power in the central administration, and linked the spirit of Spain’s national football team to a collective political approach.
Regional leaders and local mayors also spoke. Begoña Carrasco (Castellón), Luisa Sánchez (Vigo), María José Catalá (Valencia) and José Luis Sanz (Sevilla) highlighted local achievements, especially in housing, tax cuts and public services, and pledged to continue their work if re‑elected. The rally marked the official start of the PP’s municipal precampaign for 2027.
