Alberto Reyes Pías calls for political change in Cuba

Cuban priest Alberto Reyes Pías has stated that the reconstruction of Cuba requires a fundamental change to its political system and social structure. Describing the nation as “a country in ruins,” Reyes Pías argued that the current crisis extends beyond physical deterioration of buildings, roads, and services to the deep decay of institutions and social relations.

In his reflections, the religious leader emphasized that structural reforms alone are insufficient. He called for the healing of social wounds caused by decades of surveillance, indoctrination, and the persecution of dissenting voices. Reyes Pías noted that for true progress to occur, the society must address accumulated grievances and find a way to balance the necessity of justice with the need for forgiveness to avoid a cycle of vengeance.
