Alberto Stasi granted probation and leaves Bollate prison after 10 years

Alberto Stasi, convicted in 2015 of the 2007 murder of his former girlfriend Chiara Poggi and sentenced to 16 years, has been released from the Bollate prison in Milan after serving more than ten years. The Milan Tribunal of Surveillance approved an “affidamento in prova” (probation) following a positive opinion from the General Prosecutor, allowing him to serve the remaining portion of his sentence outside the institution under strict conditions. Stasi must reside in a designated Lombardy address, observe a curfew, report regularly to social services and may not leave the region. He will continue working as an accountant for a financial‑services firm in Milan. The decision is independent of a new investigation by the Pavia prosecutor that names Andrea Sempio as a possible alternative suspect. Stasi’s release was formalised on 14 June 2026, and he exited the prison through a side gate to avoid media attention.
