Alberto Stasi’s mother speaks as new suspect emerges in Garlasco murder

Elisabetta Ligabò, the mother of Alberto Stasi – the man convicted for the 2007 killing of his girlfriend Chiara Poggi in Garlasco – gave an exclusive interview after years of silence. She said the Pavia prosecutor has reopened the case and added Andrea Sempio to the list of suspects, describing the new evidence as “strong elements”. Ligabò expressed renewed confidence in the investigators, stating that “this prosecutor has worked excellently” after earlier doubts following her son’s 2014 conviction.

She recalled the tragic night of August 13 2007, remembering Poggi’s smile and the red skirt she wore, and said the victim is “always in my thoughts and prayers”. Ligabò also voiced a personal wish that, if Sempio has a conscience, he has suffered over the years. She emphasized that she would have taken her son to the police herself had she ever suspected him. The interview highlighted the community’s support, her management of the family shop after her husband’s death, and her intention to visit Poggi’s tomb once Alberto is released.

The case, still unresolved after almost two decades, now focuses on Sempio based on 21 investigative elements linking him to the crime scene.
