Albertsons launches California store reorganization and price‑cut strategy
Albertsons CEO Susan Morris told investors on a Thursday earnings call that the retailer will consolidate its 11 existing divisions into four regional units in California. The re‑organization is intended to sharpen accountability and improve execution in areas such as fresh service, store standards, local merchandising and community connection. The company also plans to accelerate investments that shift more cost to suppliers in order to lower grocery prices for shoppers, aiming to boost traffic, sales volume and customer loyalty across its 123 California locations. Morris said the effort coincides with a pending leadership transition, as President and CFO Sharon McCollam will retire later this year and the board seeks a transformational leader with strong financial acumen.
In a separate media roundtable, Idaho public‑radio hosts noted that Albertsons’ stock fell after the company reported a decline in grocery sales, highlighting the financial pressure accompanying the operational changes. The discussion also touched on unrelated state issues such as upcoming abortion‑rights votes in Idaho.
