Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti advances EU and security goals

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has engaged in several high-level meetings to advance the country's European integration and national security. During a meeting with Austrian Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker in St. Stefan, discussions focused on economic cooperation in energy, railways, and digital technology. Kurti noted that Kosovo has fulfilled the final legal requirements for SEPA integration and expects negotiations for the EU roaming zone to begin soon. He reiterated his call for Kosovo to receive EU candidate status.

In the context of the Berlin Process, Kurti emphasized Kosovo's institutional stability and economic growth, urging EU leaders to seek a European Commission opinion on the country's candidacy. He also met with UK Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Europe, Lord Wood of Anfield, to discuss the long-standing partnership between Kosovo and the United Kingdom.

On the security front, the Kosovo Security Force (FSK) held a ceremony at the Adem Jashari barracks to swear in 515 new soldiers, the largest single recruitment generation in the force's history. Kurti announced that the government aims to invest over 1 billion euros in the military during the current mandate to strengthen sovereignty and pursue NATO membership. This follows previous military spending increases and significant investments in modern weaponry, including Bayraktar and Skyguard drone systems.
