Albirex Niigata queries JFA and J.League over Levain Cup refereeing decision
Albirex Niigata has officially filed inquiries with the Japan Football Association (JFA) and the J.League regarding a controversial refereeing decision during their Levain Cup second-round match against Matsumoto Yamaga FC.
Niigata lost the match 0-1 on September 29. The dispute centers on an 88th-minute incident where a ball appeared to strike an opponent's arm inside the penalty area. Despite protests from Niigata players, no penalty was awarded. Following the match, Niigata forward Matheus Moraes posted a sarcastic message on social media regarding the non-call, though the post was later deleted.
Club President Yosuke Nozawa issued a statement requesting that supporters refrain from excessive criticism or slander against individual referees and officials, emphasizing that the club is focusing on moving forward from the defeat.
