Albrecht Weinberg documentary to premiere in German cinemas

The documentary film ‘Albrecht Weinberg. Es ist immer in meinem Kopf’, directed by Güner Yasemin Balci and Jesco Denzel, is set to release in German cinemas on September 10, 2026. Originally a ZDF ‘37°’ documentary, the film chronicles the life of Holocaust survivor Albrecht Weinberg.

Weinberg, who survived concentration camps including Auschwitz and Buna-Monowitz, lived in exile in the United States for 60 years before returning to his East Frisian homeland in 2012. Upon his return to Leer, he became an honorary citizen and dedicated himself to education and memorial work to prevent the forgetting of Nazi atrocities.

The film explores his personal history, including the loss of his parents in Auschwitz, and his life in Germany alongside his partner, Gerda Dänekas. Weinberg passed away on May 12, 2026, at the age of 101.
