Albufera in Valencia hosts art exhibit and flood‑contamination study

The Institut Valencià d'Art Modern (IVAM) in Valencia is presenting the exhibition “La Albufera” until 18 October 2026. The show juxtaposes photographs from 1985 with contemporary works by artists such as Bleda, Rosa, Paula García‑Masedo and others, exploring the wetland’s natural beauty and the pressures of commercialisation.

At the same time, the Albufera wetland is being used as a natural laboratory for the EU‑funded Flowsafe project, coordinated by the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC). Researchers, including Marta Arroyo, are developing a modular platform that combines bioremediation, smart sensors and artificial intelligence to remove up to 80 % of contaminants released by floods, aiming to restore the ecosystem after the 2024 DANA event.
