Albuquerque police shoot and kill man after he shot two others

The Albuquerque Police Department released body camera footage and details regarding a July 3 shooting involving Stephen Griego. According to police, Griego engaged in an altercation with two men near Central and Third. After being shoved by one of the men, Griego allegedly drew a stolen firearm and shot both individuals.

Responding officers Preston Harris, Jed Jeffries, Diana Magallanes, and Sgt. Ralph Rodriguez opened fire on Griego after hearing the shots. Griego was struck six times and later died at a hospital. A bystander was also injured, likely by a stray bullet from the officers' return fire. Police noted that Griego had previously posted social media videos suggesting he intended to be armed to prevent future assaults.
