Alcamo school staff members assaulted during security duty
Two school staff members were hospitalized following a violent assault at the Girolamo Caruso Technical Economic and Technological Institute in Alcamo, Sicily, on October 9, 2026.
The incident occurred while the employees were performing security duties. According to reports, one staff member confronted two youths—one of whom is a student at the institute—after catching them climbing over the school's perimeter wall. The staff member was punched by the youths, and a second colleague who intervened to defend him was also beaten.
The FLC CGIL trade union has issued a strong condemnation of the attack, describing it as a matter of “unprecedented gravity.” Union leaders Gianna Fracassi and Adriano Rizza expressed solidarity with the victims, stating that schools must remain places of education and civilization rather than violence. The union is calling for increased protection for school personnel and for the identification and punishment of those responsible.
