Portuguese municipalities roll out summer sports, culture and sustainability programmes
The municipality of Alcácer do Sal will run a "Férias Desportivas de Verão 2026" programme, offering children and young people a range of sport, recreation and water‑based activities at local facilities, with free registration until 29 July.
Alcanena’s council has launched the "TODES" cultural initiative, a series of theatre, music, dance, circus and storytelling events staged from June to December in villages, markets and community spaces across all its parishes. Funding from the national theatre network and the Directorate‑General of the Arts has been doubled to €100 000 per year through 2029.
In Alcoutim, a "Galeria Viva ODS Alcoutim" will be held on 20 June in the historic castle, featuring 17 interactive stations that let residents explore the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The free event is part of the town’s certification as a Sustainable Destination under an EU INTERREG‑VI‑A cross‑border tourism project.
Separately, the Moura Wine festival in the Alentejo town of Moura will take place on 26‑27 June, showcasing regional wines alongside selections from Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine and Spain, with concerts and cultural performances. Portugal’s automotive output fell 8.3 % in May, though the sector shows year‑to‑date growth.
