Alcácer do Sal demands cumulative toll exemptions on A2 and A6

The Municipal Assembly of Alcácer do Sal has unanimously approved a motion demanding the expansion and correct application of toll exemptions on the A2 and A6 motorways. The motion, presented by the Socialist Party and including contributions from the CDU, seeks to benefit residents and businesses in the Alentejo region.

Currently, the 2026 State Budget provides exemptions for individuals and companies based in Alentejo, but the assembly claims the service provider, Via Verde (owned by Brisa), is applying a restrictive interpretation. Instead of allowing cumulative use of exemptions on both the A2 and A6, the current application limits users to benefiting from only one of the two highways.

The assembly describes this interpretation as “abusiva” (abusive) and argues it distorts the law, harming local citizens and companies. The motion calls on the Government to clarify the cumulative nature of these exemptions and requests an expansion of the exemption areas, specifically suggesting coverage up to the 25 de Abril Bridge and south to the Paderne toll.
