Alcácer do Sal receives 20 million euros in flood relief

The municipality of Alcácer do Sal has received approximately 20 million euros in public support to address damages caused by flooding from Storm Kristin. The funding covers a wide range of recovery efforts, including housing, business support, and infrastructure repair.

Specific allocations include approximately 900,000 euros to provide temporary housing for 17 households displaced at Herdade da Barrosinha due to the flooding of the Sado River. This agreement between the CCDR Alentejo and the municipality will fund the acquisition of temporary housing modules and essential utility connections.

Other distributed funds include 13 million euros in credit lines from Banco de Fomento, 2.2 million euros from the Environmental Fund for cleaning and bank reinforcement, and 800,000 euros for 92 applications regarding primary housing. Additionally, roughly 1 million euros has been allocated to support businesses through job maintenance and Social Security exemptions. While the municipality estimates damages to municipal equipment at 80 million euros, officials noted that much of the long-term recovery and reconstruction remains in the project phase.
