Alcúdia Bay stakeholders meet to address climate change risks
Hotel associations in Alcúdia, Can Picafort, and Playa de Muro have convened to address the environmental future of Alcúdia Bay in response to climate change. The meeting, organized by the Federación Empresarial Hotelera de Mallorca (FEHM), brought together over 120 participants, including scientific experts, government representatives, and business leaders.
The initiative aims to establish a joint planning framework for the bay to manage environmental, social, and economic transformations. Central to this is a General Protocol of Action designed to stabilize and recover the coastal zone. The discussions covered a broad range of challenges, including flooding, sanitation, drainage, wetlands, water purification, port infrastructure, and urban planning.
The region of Alcúdia, Muro, and Santa Margalida represents a significant economic area, with approximately 44,361 residents and 64,627 tourist beds, generating an annual economic activity of nearly 981.5 million euros.
