Alcide Cerato, influential Italian cycling figure, dies at 87

Alcide Cerato, a prominent figure in Italian cycling, has died at the age of 87 at his estate in Olbia. Cerato was a former professional cyclist who competed for Molteni between 1961 and 1964, achieving notable results including a third-place finish at the 1962 Giro di Lombardia and second-place finishes in the Coppa Placci and Giro del Trentino.

Following a career-ending fall in 1964, Cerato transitioned into management and entrepreneurship. He became a highly influential talent scout and director, notably with Nuova Baggio San Siro, where he helped develop several champions such as Moreno Argentin and Pierangelo Bincoletto. He also held significant leadership roles within the Italian Cycling Federation (FCI) and served as president of the Professional Cycling Council.

FCI President Cordiano Dagnoni expressed deep gratitude for Cerato’s contributions, noting his passion, competence, and the lasting impact he had on the sport.
