During the war, De Gasperi sought refuge in the Pontifical Villas at Castel Gandolfo, where he also worked in garden maintenance due to his anti-fascist stance. Local historians and experts, such as Luciano Mariani, are working to correct historical inaccuracies regarding his residence in the area, specifically debunking claims that he owned certain villas in the region.
