Alcoi announces 2027 Moros i Cristians festival officers

Moros i Cristians Alcoi Sant Jordi Association 750th anniversary traditional festivals

The Associació de Sant Jordi (ASJ) has officially announced the festival officers for the 2027 Moros i Cristians celebrations in Alcoi. During a ceremony held at the Teatre Calderón, the following individuals were presented:

• Jorge Ferre (Cids): Alferes cristià • Antonio Ríos (Berberiscos): Alferes moro • José María Sancha (Asturians): Capitania cristiana • Abacuc Maiques (Realistes): Capitania moro • Alberto Acosta Sánchez (Mudèjars): Sant Jordiet 2027

During the event, ASJ President Paco García called for the festival to remain independent and insulated from political confrontation. This plea comes as the community prepares for the significant 750th anniversary of the festivities. The ceremony also touched upon previous local debates regarding the scheduling of the festival dates, which had seen disagreement between municipal government proposals and local economic and political entities.
