Alcoi resident with 68% disability faces eviction
A resident of Alcoi with a 68% recognized disability and a non-contributory disability pension was evicted from his home on October 15. The individual, who is deaf from birth, spends approximately 400 euros of his 600-euro monthly income on rent.
The social collective No+Precarietat Alcoià-Comtat criticized municipal social services for failing to issue a timely vulnerability report required to request a stay of the eviction process under state regulations. They noted that the current report only mentions his disability without addressing his specific vulnerability, as he is not an active user of social services.
Aroa Mira, the Councilor for Inclusive Policies, stated that the municipality sent the necessary information to the regional department in August. She added that the municipal housing agency has held several meetings to offer residential alternatives, though no agreement was reached. During the eviction, approximately twenty people, including representatives from the CCOO and UGT unions, gathered peacefully at the property.
