Alcoi to stage rare 1912 zarzuela ‘Los viejos compadres’
As part of the Fira Modernista, the city of Alcoi will host the first performance of the zarzuela ‘Los viejos compadres’ since its original premiere in Madrid in 1912. The production, organized by the Agrupación Lírica El Trabajo, is scheduled for Saturday, September 26, at 18:00 in the La Glorieta park.
The musical work is unique as it is the only piece co-written by Alcoi natives Gonzalo Barrachina and Gonzalo Cantó. The project was made possible through the recovery of the original manuscripts. The performance will be held outdoors to make the cultural heritage accessible to the general public for free.
Directed by Raül Roldán with musical direction by Vicente Sanoguera, the production features soloists Gemma Soler (soprano) and Óscar García (tenor). The cast includes Susana Soldevila, Javier Pérez, Brian Fernández, and Irina Sempere, among others.
