Alcorcón officials request housing funds from Madrid region
The Alcorcón City Council has formally requested that the Community of Madrid finalize its adherence to the State Housing Plan to unlock residential project funding. Mayor Candelaria Testa stated that the municipality has been waiting three months for the regional government to sign the agreement with the central government, a step already taken by other autonomous communities.
Under this program, the Community of Madrid is estimated to have 1.107 billion euros allocated. Alcorcón aims to use these resources for various initiatives, including a project to develop approximately 800 rental units, which has faced delays following the suspension of its bidding process.
Additionally, political representatives from Ganar Alcorcón have raised concerns regarding the lack of designation for the municipality as a 'stressed residential market zone.' They estimate that this omission could prevent the city from accessing an extra 2.7 million euros from a 180-million-euro federal fund intended for high-pressure housing areas. These funds are designed to support the promotion and rehabilitation of affordable rental housing and the acquisition of properties for the public housing stock.
