Alcorcón political dispute over new composting plant location

A political debate has emerged in Alcorcón regarding the proposed location of a new ESMASA composting plant. The Partido Popular (PP) is challenging the current plan proposed by Mayor Candelaria Testa’s administration, requesting a study of alternative sites.

The PP argues that the facility is situated too close to residential areas and specifically the Isabel la Católica Public School, noting it would be approximately 190 meters from the school and 220 meters from homes. Concerns raised include potential odors and the impact on the nearby municipal market, which may require operational restrictions on Tuesdays to avoid interference.

Roberto Marín Vergara, the PP spokesperson and mayoral candidate, clarified that the party does not oppose recycling or the necessity of composting infrastructure. Instead, the opposition emphasizes that waste management facilities should be located further from residential and educational centers to ensure a better relationship with the community.
