Alcorn State defeats UAPB in double overtime thriller

In the Southern Heritage Classic, Alcorn State defeated the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff 53-51 in a double overtime thriller at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium. The game set a record for the highest scoring in the event's history. UAPB held a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter, but Alcorn State forced overtime after Michael Henderson blocked a field goal attempt on the final play of regulation.

In double overtime, Alcorn State secured the win following a controversial overturned ruling where a player was initially ruled short of the goal line but was later awarded a touchdown.

In other HBCU football action, the University of Houston defeated Southern University. Southern's offense struggled significantly, recording negative six rushing yards. Southern coach Marshall Faulk noted the difficulty of competing against larger programs due to budget constraints.
