Alcover-Moll Dictionary digitization project advances in Mallorca
The digitization of the 'Diccionari català-valencià-balear' (Alcover-Moll Dictionary) is progressing to preserve this significant linguistic heritage. As of 2026, the project has successfully digitized 25,500 slips.
The Consell de Mallorca has supported the initiative for the past two years, providing 30,000 euros this year to fund the digitization and transcription of 10,000 slips for inclusion in the database. This work is being carried out at the Institució Francesc de Borja Moll.
The project marks the centenary of the first fascicle of the dictionary, published in 1926, and the 125th anniversary of the 'Lletra de convit' (1901), in which Antoni M. Alcover called upon the Catalan linguistic community to collaborate. The original research project involved over 3,000 people who contributed more than three million slips to compile the dictionary, which contains 150,963 entries.
