Alcázar de San Juan celebrates local art with night painting contest and child drawing competition
On the night of 17 July, Alcázar de San Juan hosted the XXVI Certamen de Pintura Rápida Nocturna “Ángel Lizcano Monedero”. Thirty‑five artists painted city landmarks for four hours, many coming from other regions of Spain. The municipal cultural board selected thirteen winning works, and a special €400 prize was awarded for the best piece depicting the historic Santa María la Mayor parish.
Later that evening, more than 70 young artists gathered in the Plaza de España for the XX Concurso Infantil y Juvenil de Dibujo José Luis Samper, part of the LXII Festival Internacional de Folklore. Participants, aged 3 to 14 and including artists with disabilities, illustrated local traditions over a two‑hour session. Mayor Rosa Melchor and local officials presented awards in several age categories, highlighting the community’s appreciation of its cultural heritage.
