Alcázar de Toledo hosts traditional guard change ceremony

The Alcázar de Toledo hosted a commemorative ceremony for the Spanish National Day, featuring a traditional guard change by the Regimiento de Infantería ‘Inmemorial del Rey’ number 1. The event included the raising of the flag and concluded with cheers for Spain, the King, and the autonomous city of Ceuta.

To honor the historical context, the military personnel wore period uniforms from the reign of Carlos III. The incoming guard marched from Plaza de Zocodover up the cuesta de Carlos V to the northern esplanade of the Alcázar. The ‘Inmemorial del Rey’ regiment, headquartered in Madrid, is recognized as the oldest unit in the Western world, with documented participation in the conquest of Seville in 1248.
