Aldeias Infantis SOS supports youth autonomy in Salvador

The Casa de Oportunidades, an initiative by the global organization Aldeias Infantis SOS, has completed its first year of operation in Salvador, Brazil. The project focuses on supporting adolescents and young adults transitioning out of institutional care to help them build autonomous personal and professional lives.

Through psychosocial monitoring, mentorship, workshops, and guidance for education and employment, the initiative serves as a critical reference point for vulnerable youth. It assists with essential needs such as documentation, housing, healthcare, and social benefits. The project has established partnerships with several local institutions, including the Public Ministry, the Public Defender's Office, the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), and various municipal social assistance services.

Broader efforts in Salvador to promote youth autonomy include mentorship programs connecting young people with experienced professionals, vocational training courses in fields ranging from technology to crafts, and educational panels on entrepreneurship and personal finance. These initiatives rely on community engagement and collaboration with local businesses and schools to foster social ties and sustainable development.
