Aldesa secures 33 million euro tunnel contract in Mexico

Spanish construction firm Aldesa has secured a contract valued at approximately 33 million euros (659 million Mexican pesos) to build two tunnels in the state of Chiapas, Mexico. The project, awarded by the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation, is located on the highway stretch connecting Palenque and Ocosingo.

The first tunnel, measuring 320 meters, will be developed by Proacon México, a subsidiary of the Aldesa Group specializing in underground infrastructure. The second tunnel, measuring 200 meters, will be executed through a joint venture involving Grupo Aldesa in Mexico, Constructora de Caminos Chiapas, and Consorcio de Ingenieros Constructores y Consultores. The works include the construction of portals, earthworks, drainage, paving, and electrical and lighting installations.

The project is expected to be completed within 17 months. It aims to improve connectivity and mobility in a region characterized by complex topography, facilitating both local travel and the transport of goods by providing more stable travel times and safer routes through mountainous terrain.
