Aldi identified as most affordable grocer in price comparison

A price comparison study conducted by Allrecipes across eight major supermarkets found that Aldi offered the lowest total cost for a basket of 37 everyday items, totaling $109. Walmart followed as the second most affordable option at $119. Target and Wegmans both totaled $134, while Trader Joe’s was identified as the most expensive at $156.

Specific item comparisons highlighted significant price gaps in protein. For example, ground beef was priced at $2.39 per pound at Aldi compared to $6.49 per pound at Trader Joe’s. Similarly, boneless skinless chicken breast was $2.19 per pound at Aldi, while Trader Joe’s charged $4.99 per pound.

In addition to price competitiveness, Aldi is introducing seasonal autumnal products for September. The retailer's lineup includes pumpkin-flavored baked goods, salted caramel and pumpkin maple spreads, and items from its Deutsche Kuche line for Oktoberfest celebrations.
