Samsung rolls out security updates and new One UI 9 features

Samsung is rolling out an August security patch to address 56 vulnerabilities across its Galaxy smartphones and tablets. The update includes 38 Google-reported Android vulnerabilities, eight of which are classified as "critical," and 18 device-specific issues identified by Samsung. These fixes cover system components and applications such as Contacts, Dialer, Messages, and Galaxy Themes, while also addressing unauthorized clipboard access and media processing errors.

Additionally, Samsung is introducing significant changes to its software security with One UI 9. A new, strict lock screen feature will trigger a factory reset—deleting all local data—if a user enters an incorrect PIN, password, or pattern 13 times. This measure is intended to increase device security, though users are advised to maintain regular cloud backups.

In terms of software development, Samsung is also shifting its approach for the Galaxy S25 FE. The device is expected to be included in the global One UI 9 beta program based on Android 17, ending a previous pattern where the FE series was excluded from early software testing.
