Aldi and Lidl launch price cuts and summer product deals
Aldi announced permanent price reductions on more than 20 items, cutting up to 15 % off coffee, drinks, frozen foods, snacks and grill supplies as of 17 July. The discount chain said the moves aim to ease customers’ budgets in a challenging economic climate.
Lidl’s recent market check showed its own‑brand products match Aldi, Rewe and Edeka prices to the cent, underscoring the tight price competition among German discounters. In addition, Lidl is promoting a large inflatable XXL pool priced at €19.99, positioned as a low‑cost way to beat the summer heat.
Aldi also responded to the heat wave by offering a compact ball‑fan for €39.99, featuring multiple speeds, remote control and a three‑year warranty. Independent tests highlighted Aldi’s own‑brand items, especially in coffee, personal‑care and cleaning categories, receiving high scores from consumer‑report labs.
Both retailers belong to the country’s biggest discount sector, with Aldi operating over 4 200 stores and Lidl part of the Schwarz Group, which runs more than 12 000 outlets across Europe and the United States.
