ALDI to build $1 billion automated distribution centre in Sydney

ALDI Australia has commenced construction on a $1 billion automated distribution centre in Bradfield, Western Sydney. The 108,000-square-metre facility is expected to open in 2030 and will double the retailer’s warehouse capacity in New South Wales.

Designed to meet demand through at least the mid-2040s, the centre will handle over 680,000 product cases daily at peak and approximately 2.5 million pallets per year. About 80 per cent of the facility's operations are expected to be automated, utilizing advanced robotics and storage and retrieval systems. The site will also be the only supermarket distribution centre to feature a dedicated automation subsystem across multiple temperature-controlled environments.

The Bradfield project, being built by Richard Crookes Constructions on a 22-hectare site within Ingham Property Group’s industrial estate, will replace ALDI’s existing centres in Minchinbury, Prestons, and Eastern Creek. It will supply stores across New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory.

This development is part of a broader $2.5 billion investment in automated infrastructure, which includes a similar facility currently under construction in Tarneit, Victoria. ALDI Australia CEO Anna McGrath stated the investment supports the company's goal to add approximately 100 additional stores nationally.
