Aldi to close UK stores on Boxing Day and New Year

Aldi has announced that all its UK stores will close for 24 hours on Boxing Day to allow staff to rest and spend time with family. The retailer will also close on New Year’s Day, reopening on January 2, 2027. Communications Director Rachel Geary stated the decision is a way to thank colleagues for their hard work during the busy festive period.

In related retail news, consumer group Which? identified Aldi as the UK’s cheapest supermarket for August, noting significant price differences compared to competitors like Tesco and Sainsbury’s.

Meanwhile, the introduction of self-service checkouts at Aldi and Lidl stores has drawn mixed reactions from customers. Some shoppers expressed concerns regarding job losses and a lack of human interaction, while others praised the technology for its speed and convenience during quick shopping trips.
