Aldo Cazzullo releases new book on the Italian Renaissance

Journalist and writer Aldo Cazzullo has released a new book titled ‘Quando l’Italia rinacque. Il nostro Rinascimento’ (HarperCollins). The work explores the Italian Renaissance, a period Cazzullo describes as one that placed humanity at the center of the world and serves as a profound root of Italian identity.

In discussing the era's monumental figures, Cazzullo uses football analogies to illustrate their impact, comparing Michelangelo to Lionel Messi and Leonardo da Vinci to Diego Maradona. He notes that while Michelangelo was a supreme artist, Leonardo transcends standard classification as a “visionary” and “genius.”

Cazzullo emphasizes that the book is an invitation for Italians to rediscover their history and national pride, arguing against the tendency to disparage the country's past. He views the Renaissance as a time when Italian culture possessed a universal reach that spoke to all people across different eras.
