Aldona Machnowska-Góra appointed deputy director of National Centre for Culture

Aldona Machnowska-Góra, the former Vice President of Warsaw, has been appointed as the deputy director of the National Centre for Culture (NCK). She is set to begin the role in October, succeeding Michał Kosiorek, who moved to the Pilecki Institute.

Machnowska-Góra’s departure from Warsaw City Hall followed her dismissal from the supervisory board of the Southern Hospital in June 2026, after irregularities were uncovered at the facility. Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski held her co-responsible for the oversight, leading to personnel decisions regarding her position. Despite the controversy, Trzaskowski acknowledged her long-term contributions to Warsaw’s cultural and social policies.

Machnowska-Góra, who has an extensive background in managing theaters and cultural projects, stated that she intends to apply her years of experience in the cultural sector, NGOs, and local government to her new position at the NCK. She noted that the director of the NCK, Robert Piaskowski, initiated contact regarding the opportunity.
