Alec Burleson open to contract extension with Cardinals
St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Alec Burleson has expressed openness to a contract extension with the club. Despite being under team control for the next two seasons, Burleson indicated to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that he is willing to discuss long-term arrangements before a potential winter lockout.
Burleson is currently leading Major League Baseball with 113 runs batted in (RBI) during the 2026 season. He is maintaining high levels of consistency, posting a .279/.343/.464 batting line. As he enters his first year of arbitration eligibility on a $3.3 million salary, he is expected to receive a significant raise this winter.
Following the conclusion of the regular season, the Cardinals are scheduled to play a final three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers.
