Alec Pierce activated from Colts PUP list after ankle surgery

The Indianapolis Colts have activated wide receiver Alec Pierce from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Pierce is recovering from left ankle and heel surgery performed in March after initial treatments, such as platelet-rich plasma injections, failed to resolve his chronic pain.

Pierce, who signed a four-year, $114 million contract extension during the offseason, missed all three weeks of training camp and the first two preseason games. Following the trade of Michael Pittman Jr. to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pierce has been elevated to the team's primary wide receiver role.

Pierce aims to be available for the Colts' season opener against the Baltimore Ravens on September 13. He is currently working on timing with the team's quarterbacks as he ramps up his activity level.
