Alec Pierce to miss training camp amid ankle injury recovery

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce remains sidelined as he continues rehabilitation following ankle surgery in late March. Head coach Shane Steichen confirmed Sunday that Pierce is “not ready to return yet” and will miss the team’s upcoming joint practices with the Atlanta Falcons, effectively missing the entirety of training camp.

While General Manager Chris Ballard expressed hope that Pierce could be available for the Week 1 season opener against the Ravens, his recovery timeline remains uncertain. Pierce has been on the active Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list since late July. Assistant General Manager Ed Dodds noted that Pierce is “working hard” and doing well, though medical assessments have raised questions regarding his ability to contribute early in the season.

The injury follows a failed platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection earlier this year. Pierce, who recently signed a four-year, $114 million contract, has been limited to individual rehab and workouts rather than full team drills.
