Aleia Hobbs receives six-month suspension for anti-doping violation

American Olympic silver medallist Aleia Hobbs has received a six-month suspension following an anti-doping rule violation. The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) confirmed that the violation was not due to the use of prohibited substances, but rather the method of treatment used to address flu-like symptoms.

During an out-of-competition drug test on February 5, 2026, Hobbs disclosed that she had received an intravenous (IV) saline infusion at her home. Under anti-doping regulations, IV infusions or injections exceeding 100 milliliters within a 12-hour period are prohibited unless administered in a hospital setting, during surgery, or under a qualifying medical procedure with a Therapeutic Use Exemption. Hobbs did not have such an exemption.

The six-month ban is applied retroactively to May 19, 2026. As a result of the sanction, all competitive results from January 29, 2026, onwards have been nullified, and Hobbs must forfeit any medals, points, or prizes earned during that period. Because she has not competed in a major championship since the summer of 2025, her previous major titles remain unaffected.
