Alejandra Monteoliva leads Argentina's Interior Security Council meeting

National Security Minister Alejandra Monteoliva led the third national meeting of the Interior Security Council in San Juan, Argentina. The meeting focused on a federal agenda involving three primary pillars: security planning for the upcoming visit of Pope Leo XIV, the blocking of mobile phones in correctional facilities, and the enhancement of mental health and welfare policies for security forces.

To manage the Pope’s visit, scheduled from November 8 to 11 across Buenos Aires, Luján, Claypole, and Córdoba, the Ministry has established three Unified Federal Commands. These commands will coordinate with provincial authorities to manage the movement of pilgrims and ensure route security through intelligence and territorial deployment.

Additionally, the Council addressed efforts to prevent criminal organizations from operating within prisons. This includes a program to detect and block IMEI and IMSI signals in penitentiary establishments. Data indicates that federal prison searches have increased by 330% since 2023, resulting in the seizure and destruction of over 4,200 mobile devices.
