Alejandra Neira wins women's junior cycling world title in Montreal

Alejandra Neira won the women's junior road race title at the World Championships in Montreal, securing a gold medal for Spain. The 18-year-old from Santiago de Compostela won a tactical five-rider sprint finish, narrowly beating Italy's Matilde Rossignoli in the final 100 meters. Switzerland's Anja Grossmann finished in third place.

The race featured a challenging circuit in Montreal with six laps and 1,600 meters of elevation gain. After an early selection that halved the peloton, the decisive break formed on the final climb, consisting of Neira, Grossmann, and Rossignoli. Despite tactical attempts by several riders to bridge the gap, the trio remained clear until the final sprint.

This victory marks a significant achievement for Spanish cycling, following previous successes by Benjamín Noval. Neira, who already holds a contract with the Movistar team through 2029, joins a lineage of successful Spanish junior champions.
