Alejandra Oraa releases documentary on Venezuelan earthquake relief
Journalist Alejandra Oraa has released a 57-minute documentary titled ‘La ruta Venezuela’ (or ‘Venezuela después del terremoto’), which chronicles the humanitarian response following the earthquakes on June 24. The disaster resulted in thousands of deaths and left approximately 18,000 people without housing, according to official figures.
The film highlights the mobilization of the Venezuelan diaspora, particularly in the United States, to provide aid. Oraa notes that the mobilization in the U.S. represented the largest humanitarian response in the history of the Florida-based organization Global Empowerment Mission (GEM).
Produced with a local team in La Guaira, the documentary features eleven personal accounts of survival and solidarity. The project aims to show how the diaspora, estimated at eight million people, contributes to the country's reconstruction. The special has been broadcast on Univision, History Channel, and NTN24, with upcoming availability on Telemundo and Venezuelan national television.
