Alejandra Rodríguez arrested after decade on the run

Alejandra Etelvina Rodríguez, known as ‘Amparito’, has been arrested in Villa Paranacito after evading justice for nearly a decade. Rodríguez was sentenced in 2016 to 20 years in prison for the sexual abuse of her own daughters.

During her time in hiding, she lived in a small wooden shack at a family campsite. She utilized a rudimentary alert system consisting of a bell connected to a 50-meter string, which allowed her to detect approaching police and flee into the nearby woods. Authorities also recovered a survival backpack she had prepared for quick escapes.

A police operation involving 32 officers led to her capture. She has been transferred to the Penal Unit No. 9 in Gualeguaychú to serve her sentence.
