Alejandro Armenta honors heroes and searching mothers in Puebla
During the 216th anniversary of Mexico’s Independence Day celebrations in Puebla, Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier delivered a patriotic address from the Municipal Palace balcony. In his speech, Armenta honored historical independence heroes such as Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez and Gertrudis Bocanegra, while also paying tribute to the 'madres buscadoras' (searching mothers) and families looking for missing loved ones.
Armenta expressed his full support for President Claudia Sheinbaum amidst opposition pressure and international political dynamics. Additionally, the event highlighted Gaby ‘La Bonita’ Sánchez, the Secretary of Sports, who served as a speaker during the ceremony. Observers noted that Sánchez appears to have significant backing from the Governor and the cabinet for a potential 2027 candidacy for the Mayoralty of Puebla under the Morena party.
The ceremony, attended by thousands of families in the Zócalo, included honors to the national flag and concluded with a fireworks display over the historic center.
