Venezuela energy pact grants NABEP access to 17 oil fields

A major energy agreement has been established between the United States and Venezuela, involving the development of 17 oil fields. The pact grants North American Blue Energy Partners (NABEP) access to these fields, which contain approximately 65 billion barrels of proven reserves, representing about one-fifth of Venezuela's total oil resources.

Under the terms of the deal, the Pentagon's Office of Strategic Capital is set to hold a 35% stake in NABEP's parent company. The United States government is reportedly guaranteed 20% of oil offtake at cost and maintains the right of first refusal for the remaining 80%. While some officials describe the deal as a historic opportunity to boost production and economic stability, critics and organizations like Transparencia Venezuela have raised concerns regarding the lack of public bidding, the opacity of the contract terms, and the potential impact on democratic transitions.

Venezuelan officials have defended the agreement, noting the necessity of large-scale investment to revitalize production. Meanwhile, U.S. officials have suggested the deal will help meet global demand and reduce energy risks. The agreement's duration has been a point of discussion, with some sources citing a 25-year term and others referencing 100-year concessions.
