Alejandro Currenti dismissed in irrigation fund scandal

The Honorable Administrative Tribunal of the General Department of Irrigation (HTA) has dismissed Alejandro Currenti, former head of the Vertientes Corralitos Inspection, following an investigation into financial irregularities. The ruling, which was passed unanimously, also includes a five-year disqualification from holding positions in water-related agencies and imposes significant economic sanctions.

The investigation revealed that the economic damage exceeds $30 million pesos. Key findings included inconsistencies in financial reporting, accumulated deficits, and the unauthorized use of municipal resources. Additionally, evidence emerged regarding bank movements made using the digital identity of a former delegate who passed away in 2022. The case also involved the relocation of the inspection's headquarters to a property owned by Currenti and his wife via a loan agreement that was not approved by the Users' Assembly.

In addition to Currenti, the tribunal's decision affected four other officials: Antonio Miguel Sánchez, Oscar Amer, Jaime Francisco Vives, and José Alberto Sánchez. The proceedings have been referred to the Public Prosecutor's Office to determine if the investigated actions constitute criminal offenses.
