Alejandro Davidovich Fokina withdraws from US Open
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has withdrawn from the US Open men’s singles main draw due to ongoing back problems. The Spanish player has been struggling with the injury since the Umag tournament, which also prevented him from competing in the North American Masters 1000 events.
His withdrawal has triggered changes to the tournament entry list. Alexei Popyrin, who was originally slated to enter via a wild card, will now move directly into the main draw. This shift has freed up Popyrin’s previously allocated wild card, which has been awarded to fellow Australian Dane Sweeny under an agreement between the American and Australian tennis federations.
