Alejandro Galvis wins triple gold in chess at Juegos Intercolegiados

Ten-year-old Alejandro Galvis García achieved an undefeated victory at the departmental finals of the Juegos Intercolegiados school games. Representing the Institución Educativa Técnica Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes, the athlete from La Uvita, Boyacá, secured three gold medals in the classical, rapid, and blitz chess modalities.

Galvis García developed his skills empirically at home using internet resources and instructional videos. His training and travel expenses have been funded entirely by his family through their private business, Spa Posada Cuatro Esquinas. Due to the lack of public financial resources, there have been calls for Indeportes Boyacá to provide support to help nurture his talent.
