Alejandro Larrea, the former Uruguayan footballer and coach, has passed away at the age of 59. Reports indicate that Larrea died in his native Uruguay due to a cardiac arrest or cardiorespiratory arrest.

Larrea held a significant legacy in Costa Rican football. He rose to prominence as a striker for Deportivo Saprissa during the 1997-1998 season, where he became a top scorer and a fan favorite. Following his playing career, he transitioned into coaching, managing clubs such as Santos de Guápiles and Puerto Golfito.

His most notable technical role was serving as an assistant coach for the Costa Rica national team during their campaign for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. His most recent professional involvement was with Rocha FC in Uruguay, a position he held earlier this year before stepping down in June for personal reasons.
